Behind the Scenes with arleigh

We’ve got something a little different for you today on the blog.
One of our graphic designers, arleigh, is here with a behind the scenes peek at a product she designed for the Desktop scrapbooking kit.
I thought it would be fun to show a bit of the process behind creating the pattern that appears in the January Planner and the “Highlighter” patterned paper.
I felt that for the  Safari theme that Christine wanted, we needed a pattern, so I looked through patterns on pinterest, and was inspired by this fabric pattern by Elizabeth Owen.
I sketched out some shapes, then scanned them in.

In Photoshop, I assembled this shape.

Then I painted in the shapes with a digital brush in Photoshop, and applied color layers from the January color pallete.
I saved them in a few colors, changing the paint a bit here and there, until I had a nice assortment. When I was creating the paper design, I placed each shape onto the page individually to maintain a “hand made” quality to the pattern.
Hope that’s a fun behind-the-scenes look at how I created this pattern.
Thank you arleigh, it was fun to see how a patterned paper comes together!

Arleigh,I really like this post. This is the kind of thing that peeks my interest. Made time today to have a good look!! I am playing with photoshop and am amazed at the capabilities. The Highlighter paper also reminds me of Arab patterns which I love a lot.
