The February Project Art kit contains a set of Luminarte’s Twinkling H2Os, a bottle of Glossy Accents (a 3D clear gloss medium), 2 white doilies, 3 vintage cards and 2 sheets of German fairy tale book paper.

The Twinklings are a set of sparkling and shimmering pearlescent watercolours in pearl violet, pearl green, pearl gold, pearl blue, pearl red and oyster. They are activated by spritzing them with water and letting it soak in for about 10-15 minutes. This really makes a huge difference, compared to if you just try to wet your brush and paint right away. The cake starts dissolving and the result is a really creamy and shimmering paint.

The colours of this set can be used alone or mixed with other colours to lighten them and to give them the iridescent pearl shimmer.

For my first page this month, I started out with a background painted with acrylics. I covered my page with gesso and made some marks in the gesso while it was wet. I then used two different colours of acrylic paint. I had to cover up a hole in the middle of my page (made when creating the opposite side in the journal) so that’s why you see a patch of paper in the background.

I decided to hide my journaling behind the doily. I painted one of the book pages from the kit with gesso and then used the Tree of Hearts stamp set on top – such a cute stamp! I then stitched the piece of the book page onto the doily and added the letters (the “you” are from the Mood Board add on).

The white dots are watercolour paper that I painted with Twinklings in the colour Oyster. After glueing them onto my page, I covered them with Glossy Accents. It’s a bit tricky to capture the pearlescent shimmer in the photo, but it’s there, I promise! 🙂

For my next page I started out with covering a messy page that I used for cleaning my water brush when painting with the watercolours from the December kit, with gesso. This is why you see some other colours in the background. I then used one of the Inktense pencils (availabe in the June kit) to colour my background and on top I added some of the Twinkling H2Os, to add shimmer. I also added a pattern using a stencil and white gesso.

Next I added mist in two different colours, one darker and one lighter pink.

I cut some of the cute frames out from one of the patterned papers of the February kit and coloured the edges with the Twinkling H2Os.

I added gesso to one of the playing cards and stamped and stitched onto the card. I added the Evalicious die cut from the main kit and some sequins from the Paint Chip add on.

I’ve also been playing with some doodling. I used a black pen and then coloured the pattern in with Twinklings.

I then used my Cuttlebug to die cut some circles out of the doodled paper. I added them to a page painted with green acrylic paint at the edges and black gesso in the middle.

I then covered them with Glossy Accents to make them shiny and to add some dimension.

I wrote my journaling around the circles and I also made some messy marks around the edges of my page.

To finish my page I added a torn piece of patterned paper with some stamping on top.

I also tried writing with the Glossy Accents and it worked really well! I wrote the Swedish word for “happiness” on watercolour paper.

When the Glossy Accents was dry, I sprayed the paper with water and added blue watercolour (from the set in the December kit).

On top of the blue paint, I added the Pearl Blue Twinkling H2Os.

Glossy Accents is also fab to use to use as a glue, for heavier embellishments. I love that the tip is so thin, making the writing above so easy. Another idea is to add the Glossy Accents to details of a patterned paper that you want to highlight or to create other patterns than writing (dots, lines, doodles), to use in the same resist technique as above.
