The June Project Art kit contains 5 tubes of Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylic Paints, one tube of Dina Wakley black gesso and some paper doilies. Plus the super cute fabric bag!
I was so very excited to try out Dina’s paints and I was not disappointed! The colours are bright and wonderful and the consistency is buttery and thick – not super heavy, but heavy enough to allow you to make marks and to add texture by adding the paint using different tools and techniques. The paint dries to a matte finish which is fab since the pages in your journal won’t stick together, as can happen if the paint is glossy.
I love using a palette knife to spread the paint.
When creating this page I started out with orange and yellow. I then added some white gesso on top, using a stencil. I smeared some of the white gesso out, as the stenciled result wasn’t quite what I wanted. I then moved on to add the green paint, using another stencil.
I used one of the frames from the Rosehip add on and I added some black gesso, again using a stencil.
The word “Dream” is from the Daisychain add on. I wrote my journaling – about all the garden dreams that are filling my head right now – and let the words form the stem and the leaves of my flower. I also tied a small piece of ribbon around the frame.
The paint can also be diluted with water or mixed with various acylic mediums. Here I diluted the turquoise paint with water and painted over one of the doilies, to get a watercolour-like look.
For my next page I started out with the black gesso.
I then made marks using the magenta paint and a paint brush.
I added some turquoise and some journaling using a white pen.
I painted a frame around the black, using the lime green paint and when the paint was dry I made some scribbles using a black pen.
I mixed the magenta with some white and painted a heart and also decided to make the edges of my page pink.
I took the doily that I used above and painted the center pink. I then added some black gesso, using a stencil.
I wrote some journaling on a couple of cardstock strips.
I added some bits and pieces from the June main kit + add ons and drew little white hearts on top of the pink one…
…and this is my finished page.
My next page is a very colourful mess. I really enjoyed playing and exploring the paints. I started out by applying paint using the palette knife. I then made some marks in the turquoise using a thin stick.
Next I added some stamping using the dog from the Don’t forget stamp set and more paint, using a stencil.
I used the flat back of the thin stick to add little green dots.
I drew some circles using a black pen…
I then decided that I wanted to tone down some areas and to mix the very busy parts with some areas that were calmer. I mixed the turquoise paint with some white gesso and applied it using my fingers, mixing it on my page as I went along. I also added a star, using a homemade stencil.
I added some black doodles around the star.
To finish the page I added journaling, letter stickers and the cute star stickers. from the main June kit. This page isn’t about dogs, but it is about walking and about a tiny bit of running.
I have wanted to alter one of the cute fabric bags for so long now and I finally got around doing it! I started out with black gesso and then wrote ‘make art’ using a thin brush and the magenta paint. I also added some white on top, using a pen.
I then splattered some paint (diluted with water) on top. I haven’t tried using the fan brush for this before, but it created the nice green splatters here.
I added a tiny bit of machine stitching and one of the buttons from the main kit. This bag is perfect for packing some of my supplies when art journaling on the go.
I hope those of you who got it loved this Project Art kit as much as I did! The only problem now is that I need to get the rest of the colours too… 🙂
Have a wonderful day!
I always look forward to these posts Anna and yet again you didn’t disappoint. I adore the bag : )
The little bag is too cute 🙂
Love the bright and bold pops of color along with the graphic black and textures Anna! Each design is so different and fun! The stamped dog images is probably my fave, but not by much as they are all so cool!! 🙂
