Going Tropical with Suzanna

Hi Cocoa Daisy fans! Suzanna here to share with you how I used this month’s kit and went a bit tropical. I know the theme of the kit is growth and peacocks but the colors were right up my alley for a more tropical, water themed layout. The bright colors of the kit radiate sunshine and happy times to me so I went with that.

I used the gorgeous turquoise acrylic paint that was in the Memory keeping 12×12 kit to create the background for this layout. Other than a small piece of paper from the 6×6 pocket kit to back the main photo, that is the only patterned paper in this layout. You really don’t need a lot to create a bright, vibrant layout. I applied the acrylic paint to the white cardstock with an old credit card then put a digital cut file on top of that. The rest of the goodies are bits and pieces from the kit! Pretty simple, eh?

The repetition of circles through out the layout really added to the bubble, underwater feeling of the layout. I trimmed down one of the circular “tab” bits that was in the die cuts in the kit. The rounded corners on other die cut pieces added to that softer feel as well.

By using my Big Shot I was able to change two of the smaller pictures to circles and hand stitch around them to kind of frame the pictures. The hand stitching also enabled me to have same depth frame around the photos that the white circle bubbles are thus tying the layout together. The sequins and buttons from the kit were also great compliments to my circular elements.

I love that Cocoa Daisy kits always have multiple letter choices for you, especially if you subscribe to more than one kit. I have begun to use longer titles and have different letters help make them more interesting and eye catching.

I have a process video of how this layout came together. The technique of how I applied the acrylic paint with the credit card is at the beginning of the video if that is something you are interested in viewing.

One patterned paper, that’s all that is on this layout! Even that it just a mat around the photo. It’s amazing what you can do with some acrylic paint, a cut file (I made it!) and some embellishments, don’t you think? So many fun colors in this month’s Cocoa Daisy kits!

Thanks for stopping in today!
