Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be starting off August with my very first Cocoa Daisy blog post. Today I’m here to share how I created planner clips using items from several of this month’s kits. Creating clips is one of my favorite ways to use kit embellishments. I love how it automatically gives me matching accessories for my planner or Traveler’s Notebook.  Here is how my clips look on my August monthly spread.

As you can see, I used a variety of items. The milk caps, chipboard, ribbon and foam words all easily became clips. I love that the top of my planner now has a variety of shapes and textures peeking out from the top. Let me show you how I created them.

To make the ribbon clip, first I cut a length of the ribbon that came in the Memory Keeping Classified kit. I cut the edges on a diagonal and looped it through a paper clip. It looked cute as is, but I decided I wanted to doll it up a bit more.

I punched a circle with a 3/4″ punch. Next, I covered it with Glossy Accents. This is an adhesive that dries glossy and shiny. I sprinkled some small beads that I had into the adhesive. Then, I adhered this to the ribbon. It dresses up the plan ribbon a bit and I love the pop of red.

Next, I used the Glossy Accents on the milk caps that came in the Memory Keeping Classified kit. These were the perfect embellishment to make clips from. I squirted a lot of the adhesive onto the caps. I let it spread out and then used the nozzle of the bottle to spread it to the edges. Sometimes, small air bubbles appear. You can push those to the edge and they usually disappear. I’ve learned that placing the item you are adding adhesive to on foil or wax paper ensures that it won’t stick to the surface if excess adhesive drips off the side.

I let these dry over night, making sure not to touch or move them. In the morning, they were finished. You can see the epoxy like finish on them. I love how shiny they look!

I adhered them to the paper clips using hot glue. To finish them off, I punched a circle from the patterned paper that came with the kit and adhered that over the hot glue. This gives them a much more completed look.

My next clip was created in a similar manner. I used the chipboard from Traveler’s Notebook Memory Keeping kit. I love the ‘Made with Love’ piece and decided that it would make a cute clip. I added the Glossy Accents in the same manner and glued the clip on, as well. Chipboard is a great material for this technique. I’ve used cardstock shapes before, too. These work, but can me more tricky because  the paper bends more easily and the dried gloss can crack.

My last clip uses one of the foam word stickers from the Traveler’s Notebook Memory Keeping kit. I love the ‘Foodie’ one, because that completely describes me! I started by cutting the word, keeping it attached to the plastic backing. I trimmed closely to the word, but left a small border around the edge.

To attach the clip, I used hot glue and applied it to the back of the foam, so it wouldn’t be as easy to see from the front. I added the clip, but no punched circle, on this one.The adhesive really isn’t visible at all.
