Shapes with Angles: Spotlight on the Hexagon

Hello Daisies,

On the blog today, Ria and I are sharing designs using the hexagon shape. The hexagon is the strongest geometric shape and it’s patterns are quite prevalent in nature because of their efficiency. In paper crafting the hexagon allows us to create simple to complex mosaics and patterns without gaps or overlapping.

Let’s begin with Ria’s hexagon design in her art journal.  Ria tells us, “I work inside an A6 Stalogy journal and I like filling its pages with inspirational quotes like in this layout. Quotes fill me with positivity so this project was such a joy to make.“

”I recently purchased a die cut machine and I’ve been die cutting like crazy. One of my favourite dies is this hexagon die that I used to trim one of the patterned papers of Autumn Whimsy. It was a great match with this notebook ephemera piece that I found in the Vicki Boutin pack from the Classified kit. I love monochromatic layouts so the blue butterfly and letter stickers were totally perfect for this too.”

“I love the texture and dimension brought by the butterfly and the notebook border.” And I really like the use of the hexagon in a repeated pattern on the top and bottom of Ria’s page to accent her journaling.

One of the exclusive patterned papers I chose from the Autumn Whimsy kits for my hexagons was the star pattern because it went so well with my embellishments and the pages I chose for my design in my Simple Dori.

I backed most of my hexagons with scrap paper to “lift” them off the page. This includes the white shapes with my stamping.

Next, I added the awesome die cut phrases and some hexagon shaped sequins from my stash to guide the eye around the layout.

Journaling, some of which is hidden behind the photo which can be pulled out with the tab, finishes off my layout.

We hope you enjoyed seeing our designs with the hexagon and that we inspired you to use this shape in your paper crafting projects this month!

XOXO,

Ria and Robin
