Memory Keeping with Banners

Greetings Cocoa Daisy friends!

How do you use banners in your memory keeping? Do you go for big impact or simplicity with your banners? Incorporate cut files or die cuts or both? Today, Candy and I are sharing a couple of our favorite ways to incorporate banners in two different scrapbook mediums using the Memphis Season memory keeping kits.

Candy created a beautiful design with die cut banners in her simple dori. She explains, “I wanted to document this photo we took one year in November at a Chinese garden. It was such a beautiful day and the autumn weather was perfect. I loved putting this spread together. “

”First, I put down some pattern paper on one side of my TN and left the other side white to give it a nice contrast. Next, I put down some doily because I loved how it looked against the blue pattern paper. Then I put down the photo, cutting it where The TN folds to add some interest. I then embellished the page with banners, circles, leaves, and labels.”

I adore all the details in Candy’s design and her stack of banners on the doily. The elegant simplicity of this layout speaks to my heart!

Every year for Veterans Day I find a way to honor my husband’s 20 year commitment to serving in the U.S. military. This year I decided to go big and create an 8.5×11 design with a star banner cut file as my primary accent element. The cut file I chose is by Silhouette, design ID 306555. I contemplated cutting and backing the file with exclusive papers but ultimately decided to do the exact opposite. And I used the star cut outs from the banner in my design which meant very little waste! The cut file is positioned along the left side of my photo.

Next, I used two different star punches to accent the banner. One of the punches creates confetti, which I adhered to my paper using tweezers and craft glue. The other punch was used to create the large stitched stars.

Some of the stars from the cut file and confetti stamp were stacked in and around the cut file. Next I used a stamp from the new Nordic Woods memory keeping kit to add stars in black ink, offsetting the bold colors and pattern of the papers I used for this design.

I finished off the design with stamped phrases and chipboard banners from the pocket kit. It’s not a traditional American red, white, and blue design and I really really love it!

We hope you enjoyed seeing our designs with banners and look forward to seeing what you are creating with the gorgeous Memphis Season kits!

XO,

Candy and Robin
