Hello Cocoa Daisy friends,
We are introducing new design team member Audrey Medd today. She is sharing a little about herself as well as a an adorable 12×12 mixed media design about her pup and his love of the snow. Enjoy!
“Hi Friends, I am Audrey and I am super excited to share my first blog post as a newly minted Cocoa Daisy design team member. A little about me: I live in Connecticut with my amazing husband Steve and my beautiful two fur babies, Barley, my ginger cat and Dennis, my wheaten terrier. Barley and Dennis are usually the subject of my layouts, although you will also see my adventures with my husband make their way into my art. By day, I am a medical malpractice defense trial attorney and sometimes scrap about my legal life as well. I am an all seasons gal, but Winter is my second fave (after fall of course), so the Nordic Woods kits are right up my alley.
Using white 12×12 card stock I started my mixed media layout with a loose watercolor square, cascading the watercolor down the page to get an ombre effect and watercolor splatters off to the side.
I wanted to use all those gorgeous stamps from the pocket page and traveler’s notebook kits, so after the watercolor dried, I took an old sheet of paper, cut it in two and secured it to the page with washi tape, leaving a space to stamp. I then used the stamps with StayzOn black ink to stamp in a line. The old paper allows you to keep a straight line by going off the edge onto the old paper with the stamps. I randomly stamped in the space between the old paper. When I was finished I had a great foundation to document my story.
Next, I placed my photo of Dennis on the page where I wanted it and started layering on the embellishments. I really wanted to use the snowflakes from the kits as they told my story of Dennis playing in the snow, so I placed them in my background first.
I decided only to put a few more monochromatic (meaning in the same color scheme, in this case blue) embellishments down so my block of stamping could be the focus. I chose chipboard and die cuts to create my title and I also chose blue themed embellishments to accent Dennis’s ID tag in the picture.
Finally, I added my journaling in the white space towards the bottom. I really love how this layout came out and am now looking forward to snow this winter to play outside with Dennis! Happy winter all!”
Thanks for spending time with us today!
