Feeling Sketchy – Feb 2017 Sketch Challenge

Another month means another sketch challenge and this time the sketch is brought to you by yours truly, Suzanna! When I create sketches, I tend to create them from past layouts. This sketch is based on a layout I shared recently. Bonus points to those of you who can tell me which layout it is based on!

This is a fairly simple layout if you want it to be or it can be more complex. The layers behind the photo are three 3×4 DITL cards as presented here in the sketch. Or, you could do something different as I have done in my layout below. I really wanted more white space with this particular photo.

I really wanted to use this photo and square wasn’t going to work for me so I had to change the dimensions of my layers. I also felt that the long strip at the side of the sketch was too “heavy” for this particular photo and went with two thinner strips instead. Because I chose not to use the “bigger” rectangle, I needed to fill the space somewhat so the embellishments were “bigger” and the banner at the top right evened out the balance of the page.

Marie’s layout is so dreamy! I love how she too, used a different sized photo and adjusted her photo layers accordingly. Look at all the fun embellishments from the February kit that she incorporated into this layout!

Kelly used a square photo, just as the sketch reflects, but she used a larger photo thus requiring some larger layers behind her photos. I love the classic Kelly look and how she used a fine black pen to outline her photos and draw more definitive edges to them. Like me, she too used the hard edge but went with a smaller size for balance with her picture cluster. What a fun title!

Lisa does as Lisa always does and takes the sketch to it’s limits! I love how you can always see the inspiration of the sketch but yet the final result of Lisa’s sketch inspired layouts always looks so very different from the rest of us. Here’s what Lisa has to say about her layout;  “I started off with the layers in the centre, just like on the sketch and I used one of the DITL Cards to title my page. Inspired by the sketch, I used one of the CD die cut pieces ‘the heart’, to embellish alongside my title.”

Thanks ladies for these fine examples and your creative interpretations! I can’t wait to see what the rest of you conjure up! You have until the evening of February 22nd to play along. Please upload your photos to the message board gallery and corresponding topic in the forum or post them on the Facebook challenges page HERE (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1421413761491521/). You can also post on Instagram using the hashtag #Feb2017CDSketchChallenge. One randomly selected lucky participant will win $10 to spend in the Cocoa Daisy shop!

Remember, you don’t have to use Cocoa Daisy kits to participate and this is not limited to scrapbook layouts.

Cheers!

Suzanna
