Hello my friends! I hope you are all well, and that you will have a wonderful Christmas with friends and family and not too much stress!

The December Project Art kit contained a very fun white crackle texture paste from the Art Extravagance line from Prima, a set of texture tools from Ranger, a bag of vintage mica snow and a Heidi Swapp tag.

I decided to try the texture paste on some die cut stars. I painted some stars with black gesso before applying the paste and I also added some Silks acrylic glaze in Bolivian Blue (from a previous Project Art kit) on top of the black gesso, on some stars.

Just like it says on the jar, the size of the crackles varies depending on the thickness of the layer of the paste. I had applied a thin layer on the two stars that are all white and they have very small, almost invisible crackles. The two stars that were painted with the Silks turned more or less blue. I guess the paint dissolved and wandered into the paste – I love how they turned out.

I also added mica on top of the blue stars, using fluid matte medium. It sparkles beautifully! Since I wanted to use them in my journal and I didn’t want too much of the mica to fall off everywhere, I decided to see what happened if I used the matte medium as a sealer. It gives a totally different look from when the mica is applied on its own but I have to say that I love the result. It’s really tricky to capture in a photo and the look varies depending on how the light hits the star.

In this image you can see the difference between the little star that has been sealed and the larger star which has not. I love them both! However, also in the image above the little star has matte medium on top of the mica, so you can see that the sparkle isn’t completely gone… it all depends on the light.

You can of course use the paste together with a stencil…

My page was painted with black gesso and then with the blue Silks, so as the paste was drying, it also turned more and more blue, because of the Silks.

You can apply a thick layer onto your page and then use the texture tool to create fun patterns! (The crackles will appear as the paste dries.)

You can also apply the paint directly onto your page. With a thick layer, you get these lovely large crackles!

When the paste was dry I added blue mist on top of the page. I then decided to seal the page with matte medium, to prevent the pieces of paste from falling off. I added a photo of my dad, taken in 1966, and some fabric, a frame and some pieces of paper from the kit. I also glued down some string around the frame.
