I have totally fallen in love with the Crate Paper Wooden Hoops that I bought as an addon this month.

I am partial to the odd wooden hoop or two I have to confess. I have a few dotted around the walls at home. Long gone are the days when these were used for embroidery alone. Oh no….the ideas are endless these days.

I am sharing a project (well 3 actually) that I made as soon as I opened up this months kit. Yes I went straight for my addon this month and not the main!! I’ll show you the end piece first and then go through the short process of how they came together.

So here are my wooden hoops. Cute right?!

The hoops start off in a pack of 6 like this. Really good value I think at $4.15.

I went for the largest hoop first which measures about 4.5inches across. I picked out this cute Cocoa Daisy paper which comes as a 12×12 in the main kit or I took mine from the DITL kit which is a 6×6 and the Wood Veneer ‘You Are Here’ from Heidi Swapp is also in the DITL kit.

I start by drawing around the outside of the hoop for my template. Don’t draw around the inside as your paper will be too small to stick to the hoop.

I’ve used a Ranger Distress Stain to paint my hoop. These work great. They come in lots of colours, apply really easily and dry fast. You can then cut out your circle and stick to the wooden hoop. Making sure you have the correct side of the patterned paper on display.  I’ve just used regular pva glue. So don’t worry about any excess paper, as you can see from the photo below, I have a little too much. Better this way than not enough to cover the hoop. Any excess can easily be trimmed off once the pva is dry.

Time to add some colour to my wood veneer. I’ve used a Prima Chalk Ink (teal damask). These are my favourite inks. I love how they feel so comfortable to hold and use and the colours are great.

Although I love the colour, it looks flat. So once the wood veneer has been stuck in place on the hoop (using the same pva glue) I go over the words with glossy accents.

I love this stuff!!

It takes a long time to dry but it’s worth it. It adds such a beautiful gloss. Truly wall hanging worthy now. Obviously no project is finished without some sparkle.  I’ve used silver Stickles to the star at the top for a super sparkly glitter finish.

I’ve then decorated 2 of the smaller sized hoops from the same pack. I’ve used pieces from my DITL kit to decorate. The journal cards, alphas stickers and other stickers too. I love how they look on my wall. I’ve just used a small amount of blue tack top and bottom on each hoop to stick on the wall.

I really love how my gallery wall alongside my desk is coming together, I’m sure you can spot a few Cocoa Daisy DITL cards there.
